Rock Hill is an incorporated city in York County, South Carolina, with its own council, its own utilities, its own parks system, and a downtown that predates most of the suburbs around it. It sits across the state line from Charlotte, and many residents commute there, but Rock Hill is not a Charlotte neighborhood — and the difference shows up in taxes, schools, permits, and daily life.

Old Town is where the city's story is easiest to read: brick storefronts from the railroad and textile eras, civic buildings, and a growing mix of restaurants and adaptive reuse. Winthrop University's historic campus sits just to the north, giving nearby streets a college-town cadence of performances, lectures, and game days.

Rock Hill has also built a reputation for sports. Tournaments at its indoor and outdoor venues bring visiting teams and families through the year, and the Giordana Velodrome at Riverwalk is one of the few banked cycling tracks in the country. Riverwalk itself pairs a planned residential community with a public trail along the Catawba River — though most homes there are near the river, not on it.

Housing is varied: established homes around Old Town, mid-century subdivisions, new construction in planned communities, townhomes, land for custom building, and lake-adjacent homes toward Lake Wylie, many of them outside city limits. That variety is the reason we keep repeating one piece of advice — research the specific property. A Rock Hill mailing address does not settle jurisdiction, school assignment, utility provider, or zoning.
